Listening to Your Inner Voice
When life throws you a series of unexpected curve balls: stop, look, and listen to your inner voice.
Sometimes it takes one life event or a series of events to help you keep things in perspective or slightly alter your point of view.
In July, just a few weeks ago, two unfortunate events happened in a matter of days.
My dear friend died: a sudden, tragic death before her 50th birthday and it still has me reeling. I also suffered a freak car accident that luckily left me with only minor bruises, but stopped me in my tracks.
Both these events made me take a step back and reevaluate life as I know it.
To move through these shocking events, I took a short pause from The Glass Room® and a sabbatical from my social life. At the time, I didn't feel the need to ask for permission to step out and take this time, nor was I moved to announce to the world that I needed a time out. Life certainly does not provide ample notice.
During these past few weeks I've been practicing yoga and heavily meditating: sitting, breathing, and listening for guidance from the Universe while connecting with energy to help me move forward. I've also been cleaning, lots and lots of cleaning — purging what no longer seems important.
On the spur of the moment I also took the opportunity to pick up and go on a road trip with my husband Chris to Toccoa, Georgia, to witness the total eclipse.
I was so moved by the eclipse that I waded back into social media to share the experience. It was surreal, out-of-body, and one that I was grateful to have witnessed with the love of my life.
The time away and energy I've tapped into have reinvigorated me and helped me shift my focus to the value of seizing the moment and taking a breather when needed.
I have come to the realization that if you go against the grain of where your true passions are, the Universe will keep sending you messages to get you back on track until it gets your attention. I heeded the Universe's warning and received the messages. I have decided to tweak aspects of my life and my business so that my actions are aligned with my passions. I've also resolved to choose my social conversations, interactions, and experiences more purposefully and wisely.
I've just started working on creating some fun, functional, and evocative works of art to share with you all, so stay tuned. Fall is the perfect season for transformation and cleansing: spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and socially.
If you've recently had a life-altering experience, or you simply feel like you need to shift your focus, it may be the Universe sending you a message. Go ahead: stop, look, and listen to the message. And when you're ready, get back on track with what's truly important to you.
Life events happen and taking a short break doesn't always require a proper notification. Even if we feel "obligated" to stay physically or virtually present on life's many social networks, we all have the power to participate or not when necessary. Our passions and the people who are important to us will understand and, like an old friend, will be there again when we're ready to continue our conversations and our journeys.
